With the Murray River and Echuca’s iconic river gums providing a natural backdrop for Yallarah, it’s not surprising that maintaining and working with the natural environment has been one of the key considerations for Wel.Co and their engineering partners, Spiire.
“Echuca is really well known for the river reserves – you’ve got the Murray, the Goulburn and the Campaspe River all meeting in Echuca – and it’s certainly something that we want to maintain and respect,” says Spiire’s lead engineer Jason Fehring, who has been overseeing the community’s pipeline infrastructure, such as gas, water and sewers.
The other priority has been making sure that the stormwater is captured and re-used at Yallarah, owing to Echuca’s dry climate.
For Jason, the project also has a personal meaning. The proud local says he’s looking forward to taking his kids to Yallarah’s parks and playgrounds, and adds that, “it’s really special to be involved in a project of this size in Echuca.”
